Privacy policy

Last updated October 29, 2026

What we collect when you use ply, why, who helps us handle it, and how to get it changed or deleted. We don't sell your information, and we don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

What we collect

  • Your files and choices: the 3D files you upload, a small picture of each part, and the material, color and settings you pick.
  • Account details: your email address, and your name and company if you add them.
  • Order details: your shipping address, phone number, what you ordered and paid, and our messages to you about the order.
  • Payment: handled entirely by Stripe. We see the card brand and last four digits, never the full card number.
  • What our AI assistant sees: when you open a part on the quote page, our assistant looks at a plain grey picture of it, its measurements and its file name (for slicer projects, also its object names and print settings) to describe it and suggest a material; if you tell it more, also your description and answers.
  • If you use ply inside Claude or ChatGPT: what your assistant sends ply to make your part — sizes, material choices, model links, and files you upload or attach. ply doesn't receive your conversation, your name or your email from the assistant.
  • Technical basics: a sign-in cookie, the cart and shipping ZIP saved in your browser, and standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) kept by our hosting provider for security.
  • Pages you visit: which pages you open, the files you open on the quote page and the choices you price, the parts you design or describe in the Parts Builder, and the site or ad that sent you. Counted without cookies: we recognize a visit by a scrambled code made from your IP address and browser that changes every day, and we never store the address itself.
  • If you came from a Google ad: the click code Google adds to the ad's link, saved in your browser and with your order.
  • Which site sent you, if it was a search engine, an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude, or a site like LinkedIn: only the site's name (never the page), saved in your browser and with your order, so we know where our customers find us.

How we use it

  • To quote, review, print, ship and support your orders, and to let you reorder parts later.
  • To email you about your orders (confirmation, changes, shipping and delivery).
  • To keep ply secure, prevent fraud, and keep the records the law requires (such as tax records).
  • To improve our quotes and recommendations using order data within ply.
  • To see which of our Google ads lead to orders (below).

We don't sell or rent your information, we don't share it for targeted advertising, and we don't send you marketing email unless you ask for it. We don't use analytics or advertising cookies.

Who helps us

We share only what each service needs to do its job for us:

  • Stripe: payments.
  • Shippo and the carriers (USPS, UPS): your shipping address and phone number, to price shipping, buy labels and track packages.
  • Supabase and Vercel: hosting, database and file storage (in the United States).
  • Resend and Google Workspace: sending and receiving email.
  • Google Ads: only for orders that came from one of our Google ads, once the order is paid: the ad's click code, the order number and amount, and your email scrambled (hashed) so Google can match it to the ad click but not read it. This only measures our ads; we tell Google not to use it to personalize ads.
  • Anthropic: runs our AI assistant. It receives the part picture, measurements and file name, plus any description or answers you give the assistant, not your name, email or address, and doesn't use it to train its models.
  • Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI (ChatGPT): if you use ply inside their apps, your conversation with them is covered by their own privacy policies; they pass ply only what's needed to price and order your part.
  • Printables: when you ask ply in Claude or ChatGPT to look for a model, we send Printables your search words; nothing about you.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone's safety.

How long we keep it

  • Files and part pictures: kept so you can reorder in one click, until you ask us to delete them.
  • Files you open on the quote page but don't order: kept for up to 90 days so we can improve pricing, then deleted.
  • Visit records (pages opened, choices priced and parts designed, with no name, address or cookie): up to 13 months.
  • Order and payment records: kept for as long as tax and accounting laws require (generally 7 years).
  • Accounts: until you ask us to close yours.

Your choices

  • Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct or delete it. Email orders@plyparts.com from the address you used with ply.
  • Ask us to delete your files at any time. We'll keep the order record itself where the law requires, but remove the files and pictures.
  • Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have additional privacy rights. Email us and we'll honor them. We answer within 30 days, may ask you to confirm it's really you, and never treat you differently for asking.

Security and children

  • Files are stored privately, never publicly. Only our staff and the services above can reach them, and connections are encrypted.
  • ply isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
